Why not try something different on Valentines day! Join us as we investigate the medieval Guildhall in the historic village of Finchingfield. We first investigated the Guildhall back in September 2019 with some great results & have enjoyed investigating the hall along with the museum several times.
The village itself has a long history which includes witches & ghosts so we can’t wait to see what happens!
The Guildhall was built back in the 15th Century by the Guild of the Holy Trinity. The main purpose was to house the guild of priests and also provide a schoolroom for the boys of Finchinfgield & has been used for a place of learning for more than five centuries.
The building fell into disrepair & following the second world war attempts were made to restore the site. Unfortunately inappropriate materials were used & architectural details were covered up.
In 2008 the Finchingfield Guild Trust was formed to save the building & to prevent it becoming derelict. After several years of bidding for funding, building began back in 2011 with expert craftsman using ancient techniques with sourced local materials.
In keeping with its original purpose in 2014 the building is now a stimulating heritage based facility for all.
